Public Statement Calling for Timely Release of Investigative Findings from NH Attorney General's Office

Our community continues to mourn the killing of Nickenley Turenne, whose life was taken by Manchester police in the early morning of December 6, 2025. Once again, our community is forced to reengage in the conversation to address the longstanding and deeply troubling pattern of police violence that continues to disproportionately impact Black & Brown communities.

Law enforcement data continues to demonstrate Black & Brown people are more likely to be stopped, pursued, and subjected to force by law enforcement, yet police involved shootings rarely result in individual charges or meaningful accountability. Time and again, investigations move slowly, conclusions are foregone, and families are left without answers while systems protect themselves.

Since learning about Nickenley’s tragic homicide, we have been calling for accountability, transparency, and true justice. The public has a right to know what happened, and as such New Hampshire’s Collective Power Coalition is eager to learn the results of the NH Attorney’s General Office investigation into Nickenley’s death.

In our meeting with the state’s Attorney General’s Office on March 10, 2026, representatives indicated that the investigation would be completed by the July 4th holiday. The Attorney General’s Office also explained that it is their practice to share the results of an investigation with the family before making any public announcement.

On June 15, 2026, our office communicated with the State Attorney General Office asking to confirm if their timeline is still in place and if so when the family and broader community can expect to receive the results of their investigation. We have yet to hear from the Attorney General’s office.

We call on the New Hampshire Department of Justice, the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office, the Manchester Police Department, and the Manchester Mayor’s Office to complete and make available the results of the investigation as soon as possible to allow the family and the broader community an opportunity to begin healing. Trust is built through accountability. Accountability cannot be vague, delayed, or performative. It must be authentic, timely, and public.

Therefore, in addition to our collective demands for justice for Nickenley and his family, the NH Collective Power Coalition will work towards these additional policy goals in the hopes of increasing trust between law enforcement and the broader community.

  • A singular NH State Policing Agency charged with providing accreditation, support and oversight to state and municipal law enforcement agencies.

  • State-wide universal “Use of Force” policy

  • State licensing requirement of NH law enforcement agencies

  • Provision of victim/family advocate for victim’s family of police involved shootings.

  • Modification of Manchester Police Department’s 5-Day “Return to Duty” policy (Suggested Model: NH State Police)

We are heartbroken and tired. Tired of vigils replacing justice. Tired of investigations that drag on while families grieve forever. Tired of narratives that excuse harm instead of interrogating power.

Black communities deserve safety, dignity, and care, not fear, punishment, or death. Alongside Nickenley’s family, and the wider concerned community, The Collective Power Coalition will continue to demand transparency, accountability, and systemic change.

Black & Brown lives matter here in New Hampshire and everywhere, always.

 Sincerely,

Anthony Poore, NH Center for Justice & Equity
