About NHCJE

Mission
We elevate and empower people of color in New Hampshire by fostering connections, changing systems, and meeting community needs to make a better Granite State where all belong.
Vision
We envision a vibrant, flourishing, just, and equitable New Hampshire.
Our Values
Love: NHCJE recognizes and appreciates our shared humanity. We are committed to building towards the beloved community.
Empathy: NHCJE defines empathy by not just understanding others but trying to suspend judgement and the saviorism-need to fix so that we can deeply connect with others by sharing their feelings and emotional states surrounding the systemic pressures they face every day. Empathy allows the Center to see others. Empathy also allows the Center to be seen by others as listeners, as connectors, and as people that, while many come from different social contexts and situational experiences, connect on a human level.
Trust: NHCJE promises to ensure transparency, vulnerability, and a willingness to right any wrongs we commit on our journey toward dismantling systemic forms of oppression. With this transparency and vulnerability, we hope that the communities we collaborate with will believe in us to do right by them and admit when we have not.
Accountability: NHCJE believes that people and organizations statewide should be held accountable for their words and actions towards people of color and other marginalized communities. The Center should advocate, when necessary, and be the guiding light for resources and contacts to individuals that are willing and able to bring the right action.
Inclusion: NHCJE believes in spaces that welcome the voices of marginalized populations and identities as we strive to achieve the goal of disrupting the normalization of dominant identities. These inclusive spaces are free of demeaning, dehumanizing, and violent language, and actions. Inclusion does not mean including all identities in every conversation. Rather, inclusion for the NHCJE focuses on centering the voices of the communities we are in collaboration within a way that mitigates dominant identities while raising the voices of the affected groups we work with.
NHCJE’s work is organized across these six sectors, & includes a combination of program, policy, & project initiatives. These sectors were identified because of their mutually reinforcing nature & impact on NH’s communities of color.

The New Hampshire Center for Justice & Equity is “empowered” and guided by these principles:
• Real change comes at the structure and policy level. We can't address deep inequity through band aid solutions.
• The challenges we face affect all of us. We need to organize and advocate across sectors, issues, identities, and communities to make change on them.
• Real change takes time, a deep understanding of complex systems, trust, and honest communication. NHCJE is making change on each of these factors simultaneously.
