Jo Porter is the 2024 Recipient of the Elliot M. Stone Award of Excellence in Health Data Leadership

The National Association of Health Data Organizations (NAHDO) has announced that our own Jo Porter is the recipient of the 2024 Elliot M. Stone Award of Excellence in Health Data Leadership. This national award recognizes individuals who demonstrate exceptional leadership and innovation in the collection, analysis, and dissemination of health data, contributing significantly to improvements in healthcare outcomes.

Josephine (Jo) Porter, MPH, is the Chief Strategy Officer here at the NH Center for Justice & Equity in Manchester. She was recognized as instrumental in advancing health data initiatives throughout her career. She spent 15 years with the Institute for Health Policy and Practice at the University of New Hampshire, serving as the Director for seven years. She was part of the leadership team that guided IHPP through periods of significant growth.  Jo has more than 20 years' experience in public health, including contributions to the development of a claims data reporting tool at IHPP, which has facilitated analysis for various organizations and researchers, including the NH Purchasers Group, NH Accountable Care organizations, NH Department of Health and Human Services, NH Insurance Department, and UNH researchers.

Jo's dedication to advancing All-Payer Claims Databases (APCDs) was also lauded. She has worked with more than 20 states to promote the value of APCDs to agencies, legislators, and other stakeholders, advocating for their use in informing policy decisions and improving healthcare quality.  Jo has held appointments at the state and federal levels on a variety of committees.

Jo earned her Master of Public Health degree with dual concentrations in Epidemiology/Biostatistics and Social/Behavioral Health from Boston University, with honors. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of New Hampshire with a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and a minor in Health Management and Policy. Jo currently serves on the Board of Directors for the NH Fiscal Policy Institute and the Leadership Team for the NH Food Alliance.

The Elliot M. Stone Award of Excellence in Health Data Leadership, formerly known as the NAHDO Award of Excellence, was renamed in 2005 in honor of Elliot Stone, a pioneering figure in the health information field. The award recognizes individuals who demonstrate excellence, passion, and dedication in their work, qualities embodied by Elliot himself.

The National Association of Health Data Organizations (NAHDO) is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving health outcomes through the collection, analysis, and dissemination of health data. NAHDO serves as a leading voice in the health information field, providing resources, support, and advocacy for data-driven decision-making in healthcare.
